What happens
The person is cremated without a service, usually at a time chosen by the provider. The ashes are returned to you, and you are free to hold any memorial you wish, whenever you wish.
Things families tell us to consider
Some people find the absence of a moment together at the time difficult, particularly if the memorial ends up being delayed. Others find the freedom to plan something personal later is a real comfort.
There is no right answer here, and cost is a legitimate factor in the decision.
